LG range error — here's what you need to know.
The F6 error code on your LG range indicates oven temperature probe short — the meat probe or oven sensor thermistor has shorted. This is a Medium severity issue.
What Does F6 Mean on an LG Range?
F6 indicates that the control board has detected a short circuit in the temperature probe circuit. On LG ranges equipped with a meat probe (temperature probe accessory), this typically means the probe itself has shorted internally — often from moisture intrusion or being submerged in cooking liquids. On models without a meat probe, F6 can indicate a shorted oven cavity sensor.
Common Causes of LG Range F6 Error
The meat probe failing internally is the most frequent cause — the probe's insulated thermocouple wire shorts when liquid enters the probe tip or when the cord is pinched in the oven door. Leaving the probe plugged into its receptacle while running a self-clean cycle can destroy it at the extreme temperatures involved. A faulty probe receptacle or a shorted probe circuit on the control board are less common causes.
When to Call a Professional
If removing and replacing the meat probe clears F6 permanently, no service call is needed. If F6 returns without any probe plugged in, the probe receptacle wiring or control board probe circuit is shorted and requires professional diagnosis and likely board replacement.
