LG dryer safety notice — here is what every homeowner should know.
LG dryer: exhaust vent fire prevention advisory — here’s what you need to know.
Applies To: All LG gas and electric dryers
Advisory Type: Fire safety advisory
Issue: Lint accumulation in dryer exhaust vents is a leading cause of residential fires. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that clogged dryer vents cause approximately 15,000 house fires annually, resulting in deaths, injuries, and over $238 million in property damage. LG dryers with FlowSense technology will display codes d80, d90, or d95 to indicate exhaust blockage levels, but all dryers require regular vent maintenance.
Required Maintenance: Clean the lint screen before or after every load. Have the complete exhaust vent system professionally cleaned at least once per year. Use only rigid or semi-rigid metal duct for the exhaust vent — never use plastic or foil accordion-style duct. Keep the duct run as short as possible (under 25 feet recommended) with minimal 90-degree turns. Ensure the exterior vent flap opens freely when the dryer is running.
Warning Signs of Restricted Venting: Clothes take longer than usual to dry. The dryer runs hot to the touch on the exterior. A burning smell during operation. The laundry room becomes excessively hot or humid while the dryer runs. The exterior vent flap does not open during operation. If you notice any of these signs, stop using the dryer and have the vent inspected immediately.
