LG Refrigerator Recall: Linear Compressor Failure Risk (2014–2020 Models)

LG refrigerator recall: linear compressor failure risk (2014–2020 models) — here’s what you need to know.

Date: Ongoing (Class action settlement 2023)

Affected Models: Approximately 1.6 million LG French door, side-by-side, and bottom-freezer refrigerators manufactured between 2014 and 2020 equipped with Linear Compressors.

Issue: LG Linear Compressors in affected models may fail prematurely, causing the refrigerator to stop cooling. This can result in food spoilage and potential food safety hazards. The compressor may make clicking or humming sounds before failure, and the refrigerator may run continuously without reaching proper temperature.

Consumer Action: LG has extended the compressor warranty to 10 years from the original purchase date on affected models. Consumers who paid out-of-pocket for compressor repairs on eligible models may be entitled to reimbursement through the class action settlement. Contact LG at 1-800-243-0000 or visit lg.com/us/support to verify your model and serial number eligibility.

Remedy: Free compressor replacement under the extended warranty program. Consumers who already paid for repairs should submit claims through the settlement website for potential reimbursement of repair costs.
