LG washer: mold and mildew health advisory for front-load models — here’s what you need to know.

Applies To: All LG front-load washing machines

Advisory Type: Health and maintenance advisory

Issue: LG front-load washers, like all front-load models, can develop mold and mildew growth inside the door boot seal (gasket) and drum if not properly maintained. Mold spores can transfer to clothing and become airborne in the laundry area, potentially triggering allergic reactions, asthma symptoms, and respiratory irritation in sensitive individuals.

Prevention: Wipe the inside of the door gasket and drum after every wash cycle. Leave the door slightly open between loads to allow air circulation. Run the TubClean cycle monthly (the washer will display a “tCL” reminder). Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the recommended amount — excess detergent creates residue that promotes mold growth. Avoid leaving wet clothes in the drum for extended periods.

If Mold Is Already Present: Clean the gasket folds with a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar. For severe buildup, use a diluted bleach solution (3/4 cup bleach in 1 gallon of warm water). If mold has penetrated deep into the gasket rubber, replacement may be necessary (typically From $80 for the part).
