LG refrigerator: child safety and anti-tip advisory — here’s what you need to know.

Applies To: All LG refrigerators, especially French door and side-by-side models

Advisory Type: Child safety advisory

Issue: Tall refrigerators can tip forward when heavy doors or drawers are fully extended, particularly if items are stacked on top of the unit or if a child climbs on an open door or drawer. Tip-over incidents can cause serious injury or death. The CPSC reports multiple incidents annually involving appliance tip-overs.

Prevention: Use the anti-tip bracket included with your LG refrigerator to secure the unit to the wall. Never place heavy items on top of the refrigerator. Supervise children in the kitchen and teach them never to climb on appliance doors or drawers. Do not hang on open refrigerator doors. Ensure the refrigerator is level — an unlevel unit is more prone to tipping.

Door Entrapment: While modern LG refrigerators meet current safety standards with magnetic door seals (rather than mechanical latches), old or discarded refrigerators can pose an entrapment hazard to children. When disposing of an old refrigerator, remove the doors or secure them shut to prevent a child from becoming trapped inside.

Water and Ice Dispenser: If your LG refrigerator has a door-mounted water and ice dispenser, children may use it unsupervised, creating slip hazards from spilled water. Use the child lock feature on your LG refrigerator to disable the dispenser when not supervised. Consult your owner’s manual for child lock instructions specific to your model.
