LG appliance safety notice — here is what every homeowner should know.

LG appliance: electrical safety and grounding requirements — here’s what you need to know.

Applies To: All LG major appliances

Advisory Type: Electrical safety advisory

Issue: Improper electrical connections are a common but preventable cause of appliance damage, electrical shock, and fire. All LG major appliances require proper grounding and dedicated circuits for safe operation.

Requirements: All LG major appliances must be plugged into properly grounded outlets. Washers, dishwashers, and refrigerators should be on GFCI-protected circuits (required by current National Electrical Code for all new installations). Never use extension cords with major appliances — they cannot handle the current draw and create fire risk. Each major appliance should ideally be on its own dedicated circuit.

Warning Signs: Warm or discolored outlet plates, burning smell near outlets, frequently tripped circuit breakers, tingling sensation when touching the appliance, loose-fitting plugs, or visible damage to power cords. Any of these signs indicates a potentially dangerous electrical condition — stop using the appliance and have both the outlet and appliance inspected by qualified professionals.

Never do this: Never remove the grounding prong from a three-prong plug. Never use a two-prong adapter to bypass grounding requirements. Never splice or repair a damaged power cord yourself — have it replaced by an authorized technician. Never operate an appliance with a damaged power cord.
