LG washer: supply hose burst flood prevention advisory — here’s what you need to know.

Applies To: All LG washing machines

Advisory Type: Water damage prevention advisory

Issue: Rubber water supply hoses connected to washing machines are the second most common cause of residential water damage claims in the United States. A burst supply hose can release over 500 gallons of water per hour, causing extensive damage to floors, walls, adjacent rooms, and lower floors in multi-story homes. Insurance industry data shows the average washing machine water damage claim exceeds $10,000.

Prevention Steps: Replace the factory-supplied rubber hoses with braided stainless steel hoses, which are significantly more resistant to bursting. Replace all washing machine hoses every 5 years regardless of appearance — internal deterioration is not visible. Turn off both hot and cold water supply valves when the washer is not in use, especially when leaving home for extended periods. Inspect hose connections quarterly for moisture, corrosion, or bulging.

Additional Protection: Install a water leak detection system near the washing machine. Some models include automatic shutoff valves that stop water flow when a leak is detected. Consider a drip pan under the washer to contain minor leaks. If your laundry room is on an upper floor, these precautions are especially important to prevent catastrophic damage to lower levels.
