LG refrigerator safety notice — here is what every homeowner should know.

LG refrigerator: water supply line flood prevention advisory — here’s what you need to know.

Applies To: All LG refrigerators with water dispensers and ice makers

Advisory Type: Water damage prevention advisory

Issue: The water supply line connecting your LG refrigerator to the household water supply can develop leaks due to aging, corrosion, mineral buildup, or physical damage from moving the refrigerator. A failed water supply line can release significant amounts of water, causing flooding, floor damage, mold growth, and structural damage — especially on upper floors.

Prevention: Inspect the water supply line connection quarterly for drips, moisture, or mineral deposits. Replace copper or plastic supply lines with braided stainless steel lines, which are significantly more resistant to bursting and corrosion. Replace any supply line that shows kinks, corrosion, or discoloration. Know the location of the water shutoff valve for your refrigerator line and ensure it operates freely — in an emergency, you need to shut off water quickly.

Recommended Action: Replace the water supply line every 5 years regardless of condition. When moving the refrigerator for cleaning, take care not to kink or stress the supply line. Consider installing a water leak detector with automatic shutoff near the refrigerator, especially if the unit is on an upper floor or in an area where water damage would be costly.
